I can’t wait to put this up on my wintery mantel after Christmas this year! I love it by itself! But alas, my sign was still in need of its “O” so I added a little hot glue on the back of my snowflake and adhered it to my sign! I love the little 3D element. □ I decided to wrap some grey and white baker’s twine around the middle to give it a little more somethin-something but that is optional, of course. ![]() Then I just hot glued them together like so! I think it would be cute as is for a cute rustic look too!Ī quick spray of white spray paint and a shot of glitter spray turned it from a cute rustic snowflake to a little more modern rustic snowflake. You can adjust those lengths depending on how large you want your snowflake. So I cut one 6″ piece, four 3″ pieces and eight 1″ thin pieces. Obviously I left a space for the “O” in snow! For that, I made a snowflake out of dead branches I had in my backyard! Yay for free! For my sign I decided I needed my snowflake to be about 6″ in diameter. I wanted to keep it pretty crisp, however, so I didn’t do much. Then I removed the stencil and distressed my sign with sandpaper just a little bit around the edges and a little on the stripes. ![]() I stenciled the lettering on with grey acrylic paint and then did a top coat with a metallic silver acrylic paint to add a little wintery shimmer. I could have simply cut out the vinyl letters and applied them to my board but I decided to use my vinyl as a stencil and paint the letters on (You can purchase the stencil or lettering HERE if you don’t have a vinyl cutter and would like to make this!). You could do this on a slightly smaller scale with a Silhouette machine or Cricut as well. I then designed my “Let It Snow” design with my vinyl cutter program. Remove the painter’s tape and smile, because it is dang cute! □ Then I painted in the stripes (I used Americana Acrylic Paint in Spa Blue). I then taped off my board every 2″ (using two pieces of 1″ painter’s tape). Then I measured every 2″ on either side and made a little pencil mark. It measures about 18×23″ but you can make this any size you want.įirst I painted my piece of MDF white and let it dry completely. I had this piece in my garage left over from something else. So, to make the sign, first you’ll need a piece of wood or MDF. And the best part? It was almost FREE to make! Can’t beat that! This is actually kind of a two-for-one tutorial today as my sign has two components… the actual sign and then the cute snowflake I made to stick on it! I’ll explain them separately because I think that even though I used it as the “O” in my sign, it would be perfect as an ornament or an embellishment on a wreath too.
